Pest Control Can Reduce The Chance Of Diseases In Your Home!

When you think about Pest Control you don’t generally think “disease control”… but when it comes to a cockroach that’s exactly what it is. We all know how dirty cockroaches are, but did you know just how big a threat they pose to your health?

Research suggests cockroaches are a cistern for a range of bacteria’s including Salmonella, Staphylococcus, Polio, and Streptococcus.

Just like with flies, cockroaches eat anything and everything, including faeces! The really disturbing part about this is that any bacteria they ingest can survive in their digestive system for months or even years! These bacteria are then passed on in their droppings; cockroaches vomit and defecate on food, and this thought to be how we pick up the diseases. For example, you left a plate of food on the bench last night.

You haven’t seen any cockroaches in your home so you probably don’t even think about them. This morning you spot the food, your tummy grumbles and you have a little nibble. Seems harmless right? Wrong! Cockroaches are nocturnal; they hide in dark places and come out when everything is quiet. So while you believe your home is cockroach-free, the reality is that as soon as you hit the lights these little pests come out to play. They had a field day with that plate of food last night, and now any bacteria they were carrying is sitting in your stomach.

Here are a few tips for keeping these pests at bay:

  • Keep tables and benches clean and sanitized
  • If you have spare bathrooms and sinks that aren’t used often, make a point to run fresh water every now and again
  • Store food in airtight containers
  • Don’t leave pet food out
  • Keep rubbish bins sanitized and empty frequently
