WHY IS MY HOUSE STILL BEING RAVAGED BY TERMITES????FACTS
There are several technologies available nowadays, in mid 2013, to choose from when considering termite protection and nest destruction.These include dry dust injection, the use of liquid foam solutions, physical nest removal and “whole-of-house” barrier soil chemical application.The fact remains that none of these above methods ensures elimination of the entire colony.
I should repeat that ”none of these above methods ensures elimination of the entire colony.”
Pretty scary when you’re considering options from your trusted pest controller as your house continues to be assaulted by a live infestation.
TERMITE MONITORING BAITS..a better way
Once considered a “green” option, where toxic chemicals could not be tolerated, baiting live termites with a CHITIN SYNTHESIS INHIBITOR such as hydramethylnon is an effective way to destroy the nest.With this method live termites are fed with a palatable attractant containing the chosen chitin synthesis inhibitor.
HOW THIS METHOD WORKS..
Chitin synthesis inhibitors interfere with the production of chitin, an essential component of a termite’s anatomy.This way, feeding spreads the agent throughout the colony, eventually assaulting the inner chambers of the royal cell, ultimately stopping egg production by the queen and hence total colony destruction occurs.
There are several systems and brands of termite interception baits.Some of them are listed below;
Exterra, Sentricon, Green, Nemisis and Xterm which include alpha-cellulose pellets and a new chitin synthesis inhibitor from Insecticide Group 15 called bistrifluron.
When confronted with a termite situation you should consider total elimination of the main nest above a ‘hit and miss’ chemical treatment.In many cases I have witnessed the effectiveness of this technology put an end to nightmarish long term problem sites.
